Working within the home's existing architecture, we furnished the formal living room with a mix of sculptural silhouettes, rich natural materials and unexpected vintage-inspired forms. Walnut establishes warmth and rhythm, while olive velvet, creamy textured upholstery and richly veined stone create a layered, earthy palette that feels connected to the home's midcentury roots without becoming overly referential. Rather than treating the formal living room as a space to simply look at, we created multiple intimate seating moments within the larger room giving the homeowners a space that feels equally suited to conversation, entertaining or a quiet evening at home. Art and collected objects introduce another layer of personality, balancing the clean architectural lines with pieces that feel expressive and individual. The finished room is a contemporary interpretation of midcentury design respectful of the home's original character, but unmistakably made for the way its owners live today.
